It is a sad thing indeed, that people are identified as Christians by association with the ecclesiastical institution.
Once, long ago, it wasn't so.

  1. Are you sure? Even New Testament-era Christians were identified as members of a cohesive, well-managed, hierarchical religious movement (an institution really) by the Jewish religious and Roman political authorities.

  2. A cohesive, "well-managed", hierarchical religious institution sprang up rather quickly, I agree. But I am speaking of the time before this institution. When Christians were identified as such because they were following Jesus.
